Paolo Andreucci says the inclusion of two stages not used since the 1980s won't make a seventh victory on Targa Florio-Rally Internazionale Di Sicilia a formality.
Italian veteran Andreucci is the favourite to win round five of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 he shares with co-driver Anna Andreussi.
However, with the 13.70-kilometre Collesano test – used three times on Friday – and the 16.20-kilometre Castelbuono stage – run twice on Saturday – both additions to this year’s itinerary, Andreucci fears he’ll have a tough battle on his hands.
“On most of the event I’ll be able to use my experience but on the new stages we all start on a level playing field and it will be very interesting to see who pushes the hardest,” he said.
