Juho Hänninen, the winner of last year’s FIA European Rally Championship title, has revealed his secret to success on Barum Czech Rally Zlín. Hänninen scored his maiden victory on the asphalt encounter in 2012 driving a ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 for the Czech make’s works team.

“You need to drive in a good way but you also need to turn off a switch in your head and go on full throttle,” said Hänninen. “You cannot care about the grip, the water or gravel on the Tarmac, you have to go flat out.”

Hänninen became European champion after winning in Zlín last season, beating former team-mate and current ERC title-leader Jan Kopecký in the process. “Beating Jan on his home ground was the highlight of the year form me,” said the flying Finn, now a test driver for Hyundai’s factory team in the World Rally Championship.

Barum Czech Rally Zlín takes place from 30 August-1 September and gets underway with a superspecial through the streets of the host city from 21:15hrs local time on Friday 30 August.
