Zoltán Bessenyey will be paying close attention to the results of Rallye Sanremo this week and the performance of one driver in particular.

The Hungarian can clinch the FIA ERC 2WD Championship if rival and compatriot Kornél Lukács fails to score the 39 points he needs to keep the title race alive heading to the final round in Switzerland next month, Rallye International du Valais.

Bessenyey, who drives for Eurosol-Honda Civic Type R in the ERC, isn’t competing in Sanremo but will be following Lukács’s progress on the asphalt event.

“With more than 30 2WD class cars at Sanremo this weekend, including a number of local drivers who know the course well, it won’t be an easy mission for Kornél to take the 39 points he needs,” said Bessenyey. “But he’s a great driver and anything is possible. Of course if Kornél does succeed then we can still opt to appear in Switzerland and take the title race to the final.”
