Rumours had been doing the rounds for several weeks, but now we can officially confirm matters. For the first time since its departure in 1999 the Ypres Historic Rally will once again be calling in on Ypres. Not only for a run over the podium, but with its own service parc and a podium in the vicinity of the Menin Gate. Atmosphere is guaranteed! The Ypres Historic Rally saw the light of day in 1993. The first edition was won by Geoffrey Crabtree with his Porsche 911. This side competition for historic rally cars soon grew into a top European event, whereby the centre of Ypres became too cramped. In 1999 the competition moved to Poperinge, after which in 2001 the Ypres Historic Rally became guests in Boezinge. Up until last year this picturesque village was the basis of the Ypres Historic Rally.

But in June the competitors of the Ypres Historic Rally and the national Ypres Classic Rally will once again be guest in Ypres. Together with the Renties Ypres Rally a major event will be on the books, whereby the historic entrants will have the opportunity to have a taste of the unique atmosphere that Ypres has to offer during the rally weekend.

The service parc is located along the Kasteelgracht in Hoornwerk and the Leopold III laan, just outside the ramparts and vests. The podium and the regrouping are in the vicinity of the Menin Gate.

"From an organisational point the competition had already been run for several years from Rally HQ in the centre of Ypres. This time around the Ypres Historic Rally is fully returning to Ypres, which undoubtedly will ensure a unique atmosphere," Alain Penasse, who will be taking on the role of Clerk of the Course in Historic, commented. "The Ypres Historic Rally kicks-off on Friday evening with something new. We start early at 17.40hrs in Ypres to head off in the direction of Zonnebeke. Here there is a regrouping of one hour in the gorgeous domain of the Passchendaele museum. The rally cars will be lined up in front of the castle and we will be organising an autograph session. The serious business will kick-off around 18.20hrs in Langemark. The opening evening includes two passages in Langemark and a run through Dikkebus. 10 special stages are scheduled on the Saturday, with in total 164 km against the clock.!"

For the participants of the Ypres Historic Rally and the Ypres Classic Rally, this will undoubtedly offer up far more attention and interest from the fans.

"The podium of the Renties Ypres Rally and the Ypres Historic Rally are located within 250 meters of one another. The Menenstraat, the link between the Markt and the Menin Gate, will form the connection between the modern and the Historic rally. For the fans there is always something to experience in Ypres," Jan Huyghe, Superstage Marketing & Sales Director commented.

In a nutshell, for the Ypres Historic Rally the atmosphere is guaranteed and this in the shadow of the Menin Gate.
