Citroen revealed the Citroën C2 Sport at the Geneva Motor Show yesterday (4 March 2003), a Citroën C3 based concept rally car to replace the highly successful Citroën Saxo Super 1600 that has proven a dominant force at both national championship and World Rally Championship levels. The Citroën Saxo rally car has provided the first stepping stone for many of today's top drivers in their search for international stardom in the top echelons of the sport, as it is the car to beat in the Junior World Rally Championship title race, as well as at national championship levels.
The Citroën Saxo took the 2002 Junior World Rally Championship title, along with second and third places, while in France it won the national championship, again filling the first three places. So the successor the Saxo has a considerable reputation to follow.

To prepare the way for a possible new junior rally car, Citroën Sport has produced the Citroën Sport C2 Concept. Based on a shortened C3 platform - the rally car does not need the family carrying ability of the C3 - the style of the C3 has also been changed to produce a more aggressive, performance orientated style.
