RA SS25

2003 RA, SS25 Action

  • Stage:Ascochinga 2
  • Stage info: A repeat of SS9, leg1 this year. This is the longest stage of the day and the rally. And it promises to be another unique and challenging stage. In its first run Colin Mc Rae had to retire and this was the stage where Marcus Grönholm lost 2 minutes!!!! Funny enough it finishes near the start of the previous stage, La Cumbre. It also is the hilliest stage of the lot, starting off at 750m above see level, it peaks at more than twice as much at km 22 (1625m) to then come down again to 1483m at the finish 7km further on. In character and variety similar to the La Cumbre stage, this stage is much, much faster, though.
  • Distance: 28.83km
  • Record: 2001, Colin Mc Rae, Ford Focus RS, 18m24.2s – fastest in SS9, leg1 this time: Carlos Sainz, Citroen Xsara 4, 19m07.4s

Action info:

  • Incidents: Wow, dramatic to the last stage. 5km from the stage finish Richard Burns' Peugeot develops a turbo problem, he loses near a minute and a well deserved 2nd place to Carlos Sainz. Until this problem 5km from the finish, Richard's times matched those of Carlos very well.
  • Performances:Sainz gaines 2nd, Marcus wins.
  • Stage winner:Carlos Sainz, Citroen Xsara T4, 18m36.5s
