If you were, say, Skoda and you were to go to a motorshow, let’s say the IAA in Frankfurt, what would you take to appear attractive, innovative and impressive to the audience? Since you are active in motorsports, more accurately World Rallying, you would take your WRCar? Correct! You would take a concept car, many manufacturers like to show concept cars, you would create and take with you a concept car that plays with new ideas on the subjects space and functionality? Again correct! But you forgot the simpliest idea of them all! An idea that is so simple, others will be smacking their heads. So simple, nobody cares it will never turn reality. So simple, it is simply ingenious. Just read on…
OK, so we said we take our WRCar:
The concept car is meant to be something roomy, functional. So we call it Skoda Roomster. It is very much a mini MPV. It has a functional loading area behind the unusually and characteristically designed tailgate. The seats can be re-arranged in several ways, i.e. maybe not brand new but rare in modern vans, you can turn the front seats so all passangers sit face to face and can hold a conference, or play family games. It has a sliding door, but only on one side, so from the driver’s side it looks a bit like a sporty 2-door thing. But have a look yourself:
So what is this about the trick, it’s so simple that it is ingenious? Well, why not take you two main attractions and simply combine them! We present: The Skoda Roomster WRC
Of course it’s only a model in a glass box. Of course it will most likely never turn reality. Who cares! It’s a fun idea, it perfectly draws attention to the two attractions that Skoda meant to show in the first place, and of course, people were well attracted by it, queueing round this glass box to see what Skoda had done to their concept car. And if it was a joke, it is a very good joke with a lot of attention to all details. In fact, Skoda was quick to point out that this concept car was not just taking a brush and add some paint. The rear wing is maybe a little on the optimistic side, yet it doesn’t go beyond the roof line. If it was full scale, this Roomster WRC would be exactly 1770mm wide and 4055mm long. So, yes, this concept car model is indeed in line with current WRC regulations!
