Škoda Motorsport will be represented by Jan Kopecky at next month’s Bohemia Rally (July 9-11). He will become the first Czech driver to receive full factory support to drive a Fabia WRC and will replace Toni Gardemeister for the event that is based at Mladá Boleslav, the home of Škoda Auto and Škoda Motorsport World Rally Team. Toni is involved in a heavy test programme before and after the Bohemia Rally so it was decided to give 100% support to Jan.
Head of Škoda Motorsport, Martin Muehlmeier, said: “We have increased our original test programme and Toni will be very busy between now and Rally Finland. We therefore decided to give Jan Kopecky his big chance on our home rally and we will expect him to make the most of this opportunity. We will give him the same level of support that we would do if this was a WRC event. By using drivers with specific knowledge of these three events in Germany, Finland and the Czech Republic we can maximise the benefits from our development programme.”
Škoda Motorsport Team driver Armin Schwarz will contest this weekend’s Saarland Rally as vital development work for Rallye Deutschland while Toni will next be in competitive action on the Exide Rally in Finland (July 2-3).
