Talented Czech driver Jan Kopecky will steer a third official Škoda Fabia WRC on Rallye Catalunya (October 29-31) alongside Škoda Motorsport World Rally Team drivers Toni Gardemeister and Armin Schwarz. It will be Jan’s third WRC appearance after contesting last year‘s Deutschland and GB rallies in a Škoda Octavia WRC. Jan is leading the Czech National Championship in a Škoda Matador Team Fabia WRC and became an official team driver for July’s Rally Bohemia. He snatched victory in a final stage shoot-out with Roman Kresta that ensured Škoda Motorsport won all three of the national events that it included in its development programme between the Acropolis and Finland WRC events.
Jan said: “I am really looking forward to this opportunity although the stakes are quite high for me. I have never competed in Catalunya before and my rivals will have much more knowledge of the roads. I must try to drive fast but safe and be at the finish to gain experience. The Czech Championship will be finished by then and so I hope this will be a celebration drive for me.”
Head of Škoda Motorsport, Martin Muehlmeier, said: “We are delighted to give this young and promising Czech driver a chance to compete on the WRC in an official car. Earlier this season he won the Bohemia Rally as part of our test and development programme and he also has the chance to be Czech Rally Champion this year.”
