According to Czech sport paper "Denik Sport", the Volkswagen executive committee have given approval for Skoda Motorsport to start work on an S2000 version of the forthcoming new Fabia.
Skoda Auto put forward three proposals; one was to develop a new World Rally Car, the second - which was chosen, was to develop an S2000 car, and the third was to withdraw from motorsport altogether.
Skoda Auto apparently see S2000 as the future of the sport and will join Peugeot, Fiat, Toyota and Volkswagen who already have running S2000 vehicles. Renault, through their Dacia brand have also tested a car and Ford are also said to be developing an S2000 version the the Fiesta.
The new Fabia road car will be presented mid January 2007 in the Czech Republic before it's motorshow debut at Geneva. Testing of the S2000 version will begin next year before debuting in 2008.
