SS2 Elementaita, at near 40km the longest stage of the rally and in classic Rift Valley and vulcanoes area, has underlined its reputation as the key-stage to this year's Safari Rally. Among the casualties of SS2 this morning have been Luca Betti, Alistair Cavenagh and Riyaz Kurji. IRC regular Luca Betti rolled his groupN car. Safari regular Alistair Cavenagh stopped with his Subaru developping transmission problems. Uganda's top driver Riyaz Kurji broke a lower front suspension arm in SS2. Kurji tried to repair and continue, but when the opposite side front suspension arm broke too on his Subaru in SS3, Kurji called it a day.

We are still at the mid day break, with other results as reported here: http://www.rallye-info.com/article.asp?sid=0&stid=5985

The afternoon loop will start with a repeat of SS2 in soaring heat.

Further we have very nice reports of spectator masses. The proceedings this morning have not been made easier by massive road works on the main Nairobi to Nakuru-Eldoret-Uganda highway. But nothing could stop the rally carrying on as scheduled and spectators turning out in 6-digit numbers!
