eugeot will start Rallye Sanremo on Friday looking to extend its run of victories on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge’s trio of classic events to three.

Along with Rallye Monte-Carlo and Tour de Corse-E.Leclerc, the Italian asphalt round is ranked as one of the sport’s most iconic events thanks to its demanding stages in the hills above the Italian Riviera town. All three rallies form part of the 2011 IRC schedule, which receives extensive coverage on satellite channel Eurosport.

“Our aim in Sanremo will be to notch up another win on the third of the IRC season’s three classics,” said Peugeot Sport’s Customer Competition Department Manager Frederic Bertrand. “The last two visits to Sanremo were won by 207 S2000 drivers and we have the car and drivers to take that score to three in a row. The list includes Thierry Neuville and Bryan Bouffier.”

Bouffier won in Monte-Carlo in his Peugeot France-backed 207 Super 2000. Neuville triumphed in Corsica in a 207 run under the Team Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg banner.

When dropped scores are taken into account, Peugeot trails SKODA by 86 points in the IRC manufacturers’ classification.
