Renault R18 General Information

The R18 was never a works rally car, nor really a privateer car. It was some kind of a "half scale" effort by Renault Argentina. The R18 as a 4-door, medium sized, FWD saloon was the replacement to the R12 and just like the R12, the R18 production has been moved to Argentina after some years. Renault themselves never had any motorsport plans for the R18, but in Argentina the basic R12 was used a lot in rallies and so was its replacement. The R18 was slightly bigger and heavier than the R12, but engine size moved from a 1.3 to a 2.0, although not a highly tuned one. The WRC history for the R18 therefore was very similar to that of the Argentinian R12 versions.
