I know I should try and not show bias - especially not a negative one - in this database. But what a horrible, ugly car was this! It seems Hyundai wasn't quite sure which base car they should use for the F2 project as well as the following WRCar project. When the WRCar was prepared, there were long, hard considerations if it should actually be the Coupé to turn their WRCar rather than the Accent. Here we have a case that the Accent was actually developped into an F2 Kit Car!
However be careful. Don't mistake this Accent for the model that was turned into a WRCar. This was actually the model generation before the one that became a WRCar! Yes, the roundy one with its cheap looks and funny tail, for Hyundai insiders the X3 generation rather than the LC. As well this Accent Kit Car did not feature a body kit. The kit car extras were found under the skin. In fact the experiment had a point as the Hyundai Coupé Kit Car was already rallying. This Accent Kit car was a considerable 240mm shorter than the Coupé! And it had the same engine and transmission as the Coupé Kit Car in its first version. Although who has seen this car in the hands of Jimmy McRae in the RAC 1997 must have wondered how quiet and civilised this car was for what was supposed to be a high tech F2 kit car, it seemed more like a class N3 car (groupN up to 2000cc).
It was a short lived, happless experiment. Indeed we have only this one single entry for this Accent Kit Car: Jimmy McRae drove it on the 1997 RAC to a disappointing 32nd place. Still, even with only one entry, the pure existance of this car is a rather interesting jiggsaw piece in Hyundai's development career towards their WRCar.
