Citroën Saxo General Information

The Citroën Saxo and Peugeot 106 are closely related cars on the road and as rally cars. They share the same platform and even the design gives away the relationship to some degree. Interestingly the Peugeot 106 after its face lift was exclusively assembled in the Citroën Saxo factory in Aulnay. Of both there were similar rally versions and programs as well.

You will find that we have 3 different group A based Citroën Saxo in this database. The normal group A Saxo VTS was often a Citroën Cup car from their one-makes-series. Such it was not even full group A, while the body would look standard, as in line with normal group A. Like the Peugeot 106 Cup in the UK and France, the Saxo Cup was famous in France and Belgium. And most of the "normal" group A Saxos you find in international rally results therefore are more like group N+. The cars would come minus the interior panels compulsory in group N, such saving weight and money. The brakes would be full house group A, but the engines are only mildly tuned from 118BHP standard to some 140BHP. You could tune them further, but you would then lose eligibility in the Cup. Therefore indeed most "normal" group A Saxo would only have 140BHP. We already give examples on the success of this cup formula in the Peugeot 106 & 205 chapters. Examples stars found in the Saxo Cup are Sébastien Loeb & Francois Duval!

Interestingly in France there was as well a Citroën Saxo gravel cup. While Peugeot would use the same 106 S16 for gravel and asphalt, Citroën created an extra car for their gravel cup! The car was called Saxo T4. It is basically a Saxo asphalt Cup car, but the engine could be pushed to 155BHP and the car would feature 4x4!!!! There was never a Saxo 4x4 road car. That means it could never be entered into groupA or groupN and it was never intended to be a WRCar either, hence you would never see it at WRC or international level. I still thought I mention the Saxo T4 here, as it is an interesting project, quite brave and different to the norm.
