Citroën CX General Information

A more powerful group 2 version of the group 1 car that is explained in more detail. For Citroën it was unusual to create a group 2 car as their aim was to show their reliabilty and advanced technology in near road specification in marathon events. The car was certainly suited for this with a wheelbase of near 3 meters! However for more sprint style events the heavy car was underpowered. Citroën never was interested in the sprint events, but there was a number of interesting drivers that wanted to give it a go.

Citroën had a big success on the debut of the group2 CX in its 2400 GTI version. A success however that may have had doubts, questioning the quality of the entry. The car debuted on the African Senegal Rallye 1977 in conditions similar to Bandama and took the top5 places outright!
