After Citroen got bored with their Raid (i.e. Paris-Dakar) project using what was basically a Peugeot 205/405 T16 with a Citroen ZX shell, Citroen looked at proper rallying again. The easiest and most promising way was to copy company sister Peugeot's F2 rally project. Indeed the Citroen Xsara Kit Car is a car very closely related to the Peugeot 306 Maxi, nearly all incredients are the same. And like the 306, the Xsara turned a big success story very soon. In F2 rallying the Xsara and the 306 seemed to be in a different league to all their opposition and the Xsara even managed to win two WRC events outright!
