Bit early for rumoured entries but some images from the new stage this year:

Just beautiful! That last photo looks like the Sete Cidades stage though?

My guesses for who might be on the entry list:

Skoda: Hänninen, Kopecky, Mikkelsen, Flodin (is he really in a Fiesta?), Gaßner, Wiegand and probably some more.

Peugeot: They are so rich they don't need motorsport marketing

Ford: Loix

Subaru slow R4: Arai, Aigner, Nikara

Mitsubishi gN: Moura, Pascoal.

I think Flodin will be in a Fiesta as he will be with Petter's team who has obvious links to Ford now. Will be good to have a decent driver in a Fiesta this year.

Loix, I have heard him linked to Ford but would have thought it unlikely he would do Azores?

Still holding out hope for some decent Peugeot entries!

The Subaru R4s will not be the same car as last year but a classic Subaru with a boot! Might not be any more competitive though, although surely better than a standard N4 and with Nikara behind the wheel should be good on gravel at least.

Curious if Subaru supports a car that is no longer on sale since 5 years! Like admitting their current car is rubbish. On R4, will see. Didin’t know they homologated an R4 version of the old GD shaped Impreza, but then last year with Arai in the GE R4 I had the impression the R4 car was slower rather than faster than the gN. The best performing Impreza last year clearly was Florian Gonon in the old style old rules GD gN, which is a surprise – nothing against Florian – but given Arai’s pedigree.

I thought the car I have on mind was still M-Sport owned, but in the Flodin context through Petter team, I note with interest that – even when Petter started in a works 207 S2000 on that occasion – when Henning Solberg started Monte Carlo 2011 in a Fiesta S2000, he was run through the Petter Solberg Team! That car was PX10 AVW = C036, which in 2010 was used by Mads Ostberg on his S2000 guest starts Deutschland and France. So don’t know if this car still still connected with the Petter Solberg team, but at least the team has previous Fiesta S2000 experience.

On Peugeot entries, I find it desturbing that despite the new wide body 207 we don’t hear anything from their side. Apparently Kronos is doing deals, but I doubt they would make the trip to Azores. I could imagine Bruno Magalhaes getting a 207 S2000 rent car from someone like Munaretto and I heard that Peugeot Italy/Lion Racing might have IRC intentions with Paolo Abdreucci. I also heard something about Bernardo Sousa in a 207 S2000, but he is already a driver that won’t play at the front.

It would seem unlikely that Peugeot would bother doing that kind of work to the 207 just for local championships so I am still hopeful! Azores can still make sense as the cars catch the ferry from there to Canarias.

Is not Sete Cidades stage. This is the Lagoa do Fogo (Lagoon of Fire)

This new stage starts on the banks of Lagoon Sao Bras

About half of the special the stage passes in the upper part of Lagoon do Fogo

That's a very dull entry for this fantastic rally:

http://www.rallye-info.com/event_entryl ... ?event=576

What's going on in IRC? #8 is Al Ketbi in a Fabia S2000, #14 is Hunt in a DS3 R3T, the rest are people I have never ever heard of.

But hang on a minute, didn't Subaru announce a big effort this year? Arai, Aigner, Nikara? Loix? Even Kopecky, where is Kopecky? Surprised Bouffier is there. I knew Magalhaes had a deal. Both however are in old 207 S2000 run by the Italian Delta Rally Team, both a one-off deal.

:-(

It's Peugeot's fault for being bankrupt and not being able to afford a programme :p

You are right, it is not good. However I am glad to see Bouffier and Magalhaes there and hope they will both start.

Hopefully we will see a few more entries once the championship returns to mainland Europe....

Living on the other side of the world, I had no idea where Azores Portugal is, but assumed mainland Europe. After seeing the beautiful pictures, I Googlemapped it, and found a tiny island out in the middle of the Atlantic. :o :o :o

Surprised a rally runs there at all, let alone wonder why cars aren't running there.

mof, Acores is probably the closest international rally to the USA these days.

RonSkoda wrote:It's Peugeot's fault for being bankrupt and not being able to afford a programme :p

Well I honestly don't understand what is going on at Peugeot, since they did have the money to develop a wide body 207 S2000 and a hybrid 908 before they called it all off. But what about Skoda and Kopecky/Loix?

Mof, I know exactly what you mean about Azores. I didn't know there was anything there either. Beautfiul island to which I hope to go someday!

Chris; Kopecky is a strange one. I think he would have been capable of fighting for a podium there. He will never get better on gravel unless they give him some more mileage! Maybe he concentrates of Czech Championship and ERC this year...

Loix I think is more likely to be with Ford this year and probably on a limited IRC programme of asphalt events only.

The organization negotiated with Skoda the exchange of Kopecky by Hanninen. They want that to have again this year the winner of 2011. Do not forget that this year the pilot designated by Skoda for the IRC is Kopecky and Hanninen for the ERC.

Azores are 9 islands. The Azores rallye runs in Sao Miguel Island, the biggest from the 9.

I agree with Chris that this event is not showing the normal level of IRC competition but there is a good battle between Juho and Andreas at the front and then Bouffier and Magalhaes for the podium.

Really hope at least one of the Peugeots makes the top three to help them secure some more budget for the year.

I was to say now the fight is even worse as Magalhaes rolled, but at those speeds it probably was worth a try as maybe the Peugeots are faster on their roofs!
