Future of Mini? I guess Mini will pull out in 2013 and will be stuck with a Ford, VW, and Citroen tripoly, which will likely be the case until someone else joins the WRC.

Of course, BMW has no problems financing a DTM program that is 20x more expensive than WRC and only impacts Germany; however, DTM wants to expand to other areas.

That said the story is since 48hrs only on rallye-magazin and talks of BMW pulling the plug immediately after Monte, not waiting till 2013. Not sure how reliable this all is.

iRally says that a deal with Mini is now on the table, and could be confirm if both Ford and Citroen both approve of it. It would allow Mini to have a 7 rally program with 5 European rallies and 2 longhaul rallies and reduced testing along with Manufacturers status. Customer Mini's would not be able to complete once this deal is finalized. FiA has been working with BMW, and BMW has had some doubts on the WRC's future and the fiasco with Antonov has not helped Mini compete next year.

iRally seems to have all the good information about Prodrive/Mini.

I heard a commentary on radio today about a marketing advertising genius suggesting that a storm cell be named Cooper, apparently to promote the Mini Cooper can handle bad weather or something. The story followed the Storm Cell Cooper sponsored by Mini went on to be much worse than anticipated, and now Cooper is responsible for multiple deaths and much destruction, causing untold damage to the brand image!

Perhaps this is why there are suggestions that BMW is cutting the Cooper WRC team loose, and distancing itself from the brand? :?

That's a much better outcome from BMW. ;) http://wrc.rallye-info.com/article.asp?sid=16&stid=9896

BMW obviously got tired of Dave Richards hair style, or lack thereof
