2017 WRCar formula will just be an evolution of the current regs. Not sure what Toyota will do, as there might not be a Hybrid WRC, but Jarmo Mahonen wants 600 HP Silhouettes a la Group B. I believe an announcement on this will be made in March, as I believe there will be a WMSC.

Basically, it says that the Tour de Course will become the French round of the WRC, and it should be announced at Monte Carlo. ERC will get Valais in lieu of Corsica which probably isn't a bad thing, but Corsica is a classic event. It also says that Alsace region is not paying for this event, which celebrated Sebastien Loeb. I could see this event being good for Loeb as it is his home rally, but I think once he left WRC, it is time for a new Rally de France or bring back Corsica. The article talks about the history of the event and that it has 10,000 turns. I believe ChrisB has a wonderful write up on this event, where the longest straight is the airport. I believe this was rumored a while back where Alsace region was not willing to finance the event, so there might have been a last minute switchover to Corsica.

I know this is for a road car, but this is a very important bit of news as the Evo was a very important part of the Group A and Group N days of WRC. This is the final edition of the Lancer Evolution which is only being sold in Japan for now. Does not seem to be any real major changes, but only 1,000 are being built. An end of what was an important part of the WRC. Sad to see this car go, but Subaru seems to be committed in making WRX and WRX STi vehicles for a few more years at least. Then again Ford has the Focus RS with the 2.3T, so maybe there will still be those nice vehicles, just without rally heritage.

Rumor has it that Citroen is not happy with the WTCC and how Eurosport is promoting it. Citroen is considering to ditch the WTCC in order to refocus on WRC. Not sure what this means for Ogier, or any good driver. I am sure Citroen can find a good driver and sponsor and try to compete with VW.

FiA is working on the next generation WRCars, but no fancy monocoque chassis by using a complete silhouette, though some could argue the current WRcars are silhouettes. According to the article, engines will now make 370 BHP, by the use of a larger (35mm) restrictor. Center diffs are coming back, but it is mainly to make the cars easier to maintain, and cars will be 30 kg lighter and 100mm wider.

Canada could be getting a WRC event in a few years, perhaps in Ottawa. Ottawa would make an interesting event due to close proximity with Quebec and you could even have stages in both provinces.

Apparently, there is a new R3 class being developed. I would consider this to be a R2 + 4WD as a way to get people into 4WD rally on a budget in either FiA or national championships.

Looks like Rally3 is due to debut in 2021. 3 manufacturers are currently developing a Rally3 based car and 3 more are interested in the tech draft. Of course the 3 manufacturers are likely going to be Ford (M-Sport), Peugeot and Renault (likely). Going to be an interesting class in ERC and lower tiers of WRC and national championships.

A few announcements were made at WMSC. Nothing new but still important.

For WRC, nothing new was really announced. Anyone in the loop would already know all the details, but the actual details would be announced at a later date (such as the engine, safety cell, hybrid, and the ability to scale larger cars down). Cars should have the same spectacle and looks as the current ones and are rumored to cost around 500,000 EUR with the hybrid vs 700-800,000 EUR for the current ones.

Rally3 is coming along nicely and some changes have been requested since the last update in November. Rally3 would have a 210 HP turbocharged engine fed through an unknown restrictor. Cars are said to cost around 100,000 EUR. Not too bad for a youngster or someone in a national championship needing an affordable 4WD rally car. No information on the weight or if it will be a kit that can be installed on to an existing body shell. I think it will be a factory developed car as it seems that a few manufacturers are interested. Not sure why this is a WRC forum rumor that I posted, but maybe it can be used as the JWRC or a new WRC class. I definitely see this in the ERC or national championships as an affordable 4WD.

Roberto Angiolini of Jolly Club has died at the age of 75. He was the one who ran the Jolly Club team which had a unique history of running Lancia rally cars. Legends such as Miki Biasion, Alessandro Fioro, and Dario Cerrato to name a few. Though Carlos Sainz seemed to have success with Jolly Club as well. My heart goes out to the family and sad to see him go as he seemed to be an important part of WRC history.

Expect an announcement next week in regards to this years season due to COVID-19. There are plans to bring in some ERC events to the WRC in order to supplement the calendar. It appears that Ypres is not happening but rather a Rally Belgium with a power stage in and around Francorhamps and the WRC event would precede the Belgian championship. Germany keeps its current date. Sardinia replaces GB while Rally Estonia would be counted as a WRC event. Rally Islas Canarias would finish off the season.
