It is official, VW will quit the WRC and focus on other prospects. I am sure this is happening because of Dieselgate and that is causing some issues for VW as now VW is heavily investing in electrification, or was this the plan all along. VW succeeds in a sport, loses interest and finds another they can dominate. However, VW will make a Polo R5, so customer teams in WRC2 will be able to race in a VW car, or will this revert back to VW's old motorsport ways. Audi is now in Formula E which is a very prestigious motorsport and VW has been interested in F1 though they are waiting for Bernie Ecclestone to step down, and find a regulation that suits them. Not sure if anybody will be reading this, but I thought this was important news. It was reported earlier in other motorsport news and tabloids, but it has been speculated for a while. VW also plans to just write off the expense of developing a Polo R WRC, though we will never know how competitive it was.
