NEWS JUST IN

IRC P-A end – Premature end this is! @ 11:15 AM - Repeat of SS12, long, narrow, twisty downhill. The rally was meant to finish with the 2 longest and so unique and technical East coast stages. But Alen crash delays penultimate stage by an hour and then SS18 is cancelled because of a storm front making it wise to not allow any further delays before returning to base.
Not again! At least Anton is not as slow as Rautenbach. No points for Abarth, again, disaster! Meeke wins.
Final results after SS17:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 2h36m48s3;

IRC P-A SS15 – Vouilloz trying for 2nd @ 11:14 AM - Repeat of short, hilly SS6. Today’s middle loop starts the same as yesterday’s middle loop, but yesterday’s SS7 is replaced for the superspecial, which is still better than ending the event with a superspecial. Nevertheless, we will not report on that SS16 as nothing is going to happen.
Also on SS15 no major dramas. Stage win for Vouilloz. Time penalty for arriving late to SS16 drops Sousa outside top10.
Results after SS15:

IRC P-A SS14 – Meeke eases off @ 11:12 AM - Repeat of SS5 of leg1, the stage with everything from fast asphalt to technical gravel
Meeke apears to household his lead now as he drops 14s to stage winner Kopecky. SS14 is the first stage of this event without position change in the top10.
Results after SS14:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 2h11m31s8;

9th= Rautenbach/Barritt, Peugeot, +5m23s4;
10th= Sousa/Carvalho, Fiat Abarth, +5m45s2

IRC P-A SS13 – Tronqueira, Vouilloz attack @ 11:10 AM - Next stage in the green, exotic east, again extremely narrow and twisty, starting at the coast and climbing right across a mountain of 700metres.
Great time by Vouilloz, closing in on 2nd again. Acores’ local Moura takes Rautenbach.
Results after SS13:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 2h02m48s1;

10th= Sousa/Carvalho, Fiat Abarth, +5m42s4

IRC P-A SS12 – Graminhais, Basso out @ 11:09 AM - Mega stage in the very green, exotic east of the island, extremely narrow and twisty, starting at near 1000metres altitude and going downhill most of the time.

10th= Magalhaes/Magalhaes, Peugeot, +5m10s2

IRC P-A SS11 – 1st on road no difference! @ 11:07 AM - This stage is one of only two that will be run just once. The next two stages SS12&13 will be the most interesting ones, extremely technical and narrow and over 20km each. Very short stage but has everything from asphalt to turning into very technical gravel passages.
Kris Meeke wins this stage again, never mind he is 1st on the road now.
Results after SS11:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 1h26m21s8;
2nd= Vouilloz/Klinger, Peugeot, +44s;
3rd= Kopecky/Stary, Skoda, +51s2;

IRC P-A SS10 – Hänninhen crash @ 11:04 AM - Repeat of SS4, the twisty stage without hills on an island made of vulcanoes!
Hänninen crashes big and final on same stage where earlier he lost a wheel and 10min. Notional times have to be given to Magalhaes and Moura, who are held up by the crash. Maurin/Polo S2000 completes stage with engine problem that proves terminal. Basso takes Peres.
Results after leg1 (SS10):
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 1h20m29s8;
2nd= Vouilloz/Klinger, Peugeot, +40s2;
3rd= Kopecky/Stary, Skoda, +50s6;
4th= Alen/Alanne, Fiat Abarth, +1m18s2;

IRC P-A SS9 – Loix takes 2, very close! @ 11:03 AM - Repeat of fantastic vulcano stage Sete Cidades
Freddy Loix overtook Basso and Peres on this stage, even though neither of them had problems and Loix himself was only 6th in this stage – close IRC!
Results after SS9:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 1h10m33s8;
2nd= Vouilloz/Klinger, Peugeot, +31s1;
3rd= Kopecky/Stary, Skoda, +40s1;

IRC P-A SS8 – Meeke again, but still close @ 11:01 AM - Repeat of short SS2, which opened the day, basically last loop is a repeat of 1st loop with middle loop being different.
Another very close stage win for Meeke. This is now his 4th stage win in 7 stages, yet he fails to pull away!

10th= Magalhaes/Magalhaes, Peugeot, +2m48s3

IRC P-A SS7 – Another one for Meeke @ 10:59 AM - Twisty technical stage, new to this event, longest stage of day1 and one of only two stages that will not be re-used. Although the altitude doesn’t change too dramatically, it is interesting that this longer, more technical stage crosses 2 hills and finishes climbing up a 3rd one.
Meeke seems to keep winning stages, but it’s so tight, this time he won by less than 2s on the day’s longest stage! Loix passes Rautenbach and threatens Basso.
Results after SS7:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 54m38s4;
2nd= Vouilloz/Klinger, Peugeot, +22s9;
3rd= Kopecky/Stary, Skoda, +36s8;

10th= Magalhaes/Magalhaes, Peugeot, +2m42s7

IRC P-A SS6 – Magalhaes problems continue @ 10:57 AM - Short stage, but hilly and flowing, going up to 600metres altitude and back down to 100.
Magalhaes drops yet more time.
Results after SS6:

2nd= Vouilloz/Klinger, Peugeot, +15s;

9th= Magalhaes/Magalhaes, Peugeot, +1m36s3;
10th= Wittmann/Ettel, Mitsubishi, +1m43s2

IRC P-A SS5 – Kopecky wins stage by 0.1s @ 10:52 AM - This stage starts fast-ish downhill, then leads to a larger asphalt section. The end is a long straight leading to an extremely twisty section
Magalhaes’ 207 has broken a driveshaft and Bruno will have to live with that during all 3 stages of this loop. He drops outside the top3 already. Kopecky wins stage 0.1s from Meeke.
Results after SS5:

10th= Wittmann/Ettel, Mitsubishi, +1m39s5

IRC P-A SS4 – Hänninen lost wheel @ 10:50 AM - Very twisty and technical stage and curiously without any hills, all flat, a novum on a vulcanic island
Hänninen ripped a wheel off, he is still in the event but lost 10 minutes. Stunning times by Meeke, Vouilloz and Alen!
Results after SS4:
1st= Meeke/Nagle, Peugeot, 27m57s8;
2nd= Vouilloz/Klinger, Peugeot, +13s2;

8th= Basso/Dotta, Fiat Abarth, +31s;
9th= Rautenbach/Barritt, Peugeot, +35s5;
10th= Sousa/Carvalho, Fiat Abarth, +40s4

IRC P-A SS2 – Leader Loix punctures @ 10:47 AM - Short stage, twisty and downhill, ending with a fast uphill straight.
Loix lost a minute with a puncture. Hänninen won the stage but it is Meeke who takes the lead by 0.2s. The only noteworthy Subaru, Adruzilo Lopes, retired already.
